UNREAL FOR FILM VISUALIZATION WORKSHOP.

This immersive 3-day workshop equips film professionals—directors, cinematographers, production designers, and VFX artists—with the skills to modernize pre-production and on-set workflows using Unreal Engine. Participants will explore a full real-time visualization pipeline, including virtual scouting (with immersive VR headset exploration), previs, techviz, and virtual camera (VCAM) operation.

Through hands-on, project-based sessions, attendees will learn to build and iterate virtual sets, simulate complex camera movements, and block performances in real time. The workshop demonstrates how Unreal Engine transforms traditional pre-production into a collaborative, interactive process—enabling teams to test creative ideas, solve technical challenges, and clearly communicate vision long before arriving on set. Participants will also gain practical experience with VR-based location scouting and the use of real-world geographic data via Cesium for Unreal to create accurate digital twins of potential filming locations.

TWINMOTION FOR SET DESIGN & FILM VISUALIZATION WORKSHOP.

We'll dive deep into Twinmotion's intuitive interface and robust features, guiding participants from initial concept to detailed pre-visualization. Throughout the workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience in importing models, applying PBR materials, mastering lighting and atmospheric effects, and populating scenes with extensive asset libraries. We'll cover everything from generating stunning still images and cinematic videos to creating interactive presentations for seamless stakeholder communication. By the end of this workshop, you'll be equipped to confidently integrate Twinmotion into your workflow, enhancing your ability to design, visualize, and present compelling film sets.

METAHUMAN WORKSHOP.

This one-week MetaHuman workshop in Unreal Engine provides a comprehensive hands-on experience, covering everything from character creation to animation and virtual production. Participants will start by learning the basics of MetaHuman Creator, customizing characters, and importing them into Unreal Engine. As they progress, they will explore rigging, animation, and motion capture, utilizing tools like Live Link for facial tracking and motion capture retargeting for full-body animations. By mid-week, they will dive into Unreal Engine’s Control Rig, Animation Blueprint, and Sequencer, refining animations and preparing cinematic sequences.

Towards the end of the workshop, the focus shifts to virtual production and AI-driven interactivity, enabling participants to integrate MetaHumans into real-time projects. They will experiment with lighting, rendering, and AI behavior scripting to create interactive NPCs or cinematic storytelling pieces. REALTIME VFX WORKSHOP.

This comprehensive 3-week workshop immerses participants in the world of real-time visual effects within Unreal Engine, covering everything from fundamental principles to advanced techniques. The first week lays the groundwork, introducing Unreal's VFX toolkit, including materials, shaders, and Niagara particle systems. Participants will learn to incorporate physics, forces, and basic collision effects while crafting their initial environmental VFX.

Week two explores advanced Niagara techniques, procedural effects, explosive and destructive VFX, and even fluid simulations. Participants will tackle cinematic VFX scenes and discover how to seamlessly integrate their creations with Unreal's Sequencer for animation and rendering.

The final week emphasizes optimization, gameplay integration, and industry best practices. Topics include real-time performance considerations, interactive VFX triggered by game mechanics, and advanced lighting and rendering techniques. The workshop culminates in a final project: the creation of a portfolio-ready VFX sequence. Participants will present their work and receive constructive feedback to hone their skills.

  • Courses will generally span 24 weeks in length, meeting twice per week on a scheduled day and time. Some courses may be offered in a variety of schedule formats. Please check the course schedule for course schedule information.

  • Yes. NOETA’s courses are High-level, for-credit classes. These courses include classwork, homework, and grades.

  • If you are unable to attend a class session, simply notify your instructor. Absences may not exceed 30% of the total course time. Students who do not maintain 70% attendance may receive an unsatisfactory grade.

  • Each class session is scheduled within a 2-hour block. A class will typically consist of homework review, a short Q&A session, and lecture.

  • Due to the advanced nature of our curriculum and high volume of coursework, it is recommended that full-time students focus primarily on their studies while attending.

  • You should expect to spend 9 to 10 hours a week on online-class coursework and homework, per class.

  • NOETA is sensitive to the fact that a great deal of information is given in course lectures. Students are encouraged to audio record lectures with instructor permission only, but please note that students must not film lectures, either with a camera or their cell phones, under any circumstances.
